My First Game 2.0
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
My First Game 2.0 is a small game demonstrating my improvements as a beginner programmer.
It's a basic action platformer that consists of two games:
- The first game I ever made, which took 3 days to make and largely just followed Brackeys' Godot tutorial.
- And my second game, which took 56 days to make and expanded upon the first one by adding player attacks, more enemies, multiple levels, saving and loading, and more.
Controls
- Gameplay:
- Controller (recommended) and keyboard.
- UI:
- Mouse (recommended), keyboard and controller.
- The menus are mostly controller-navigable, but the settings menu can be a bit janky with controllers and keyboard, and become unresponsive at times (just press the pause button again to close it).
Playtime & Saving
- The full game is around 10-20 minutes, give or take.
- The game automatically saves your progress at the end of each level.
Download Versions
I have only tested the Windows version of the game and can't guarantee that the other versions will run as intended, if at all.
About
While I made the game mostly for myself, as a means to experiment and learn more about game development, I tried to fix all the bugs I encountered and make it a relatively complete, albeit short and simple, experience. I don't plan on fixing any bugs I found only after releasing the game, not only because Godot updated since then which would require some additional reworks, but also because I want this game to represent what I was able to make as a first time dev, bugs and all.
I had absolutely no coding experience about 3 months before releasing this game, and had only been leaning GDScript (The Godot Engine's coding language) for about 2 of those months, so needless to say, the game is nothing impressive and is held together with duct tape and spaghetti code. However, as a complete beginner, I am happy with how the project turned out, and I hope it may inspire other beginners out there to give game development a try by showing what can be done even with little time and experience.
